5,000+ Vines
For some reason, this week I just wanted to make something that looked cool. I have been doing a lot of ‘interface’ stuff and thinking about functionality… so I was hankerin’ for a change of pace. Luckily the data set for this assignment is all about frivolity; wine… more than 5,000 different bottles to be exact, were given to us, along with all their metadata.
It was a bit of a challenge to wrangle the forty-thousand some odd bits of data into some sort of organized visualization, but I eventually got there: I arranged the wines randomly around a cylinder, ordered by variety of grape. Then, I let the user filter through the wines, highlighting wines that share common attributes( the white line drawn in between them). The user can also move around the thing in 3D.
Sorry there is no demo up of it though… its in openGL, so it doesn’t like being played over the browser.
BUT, you can download a executable jar.
