Space and Tiiiiiiiiime!
This week’s GLART topic was space, perspective, ortho, and moving around; so obiviously I thought wormhole. Well actually, I was at first thinking dense fire spout thing, but then I got distracted by flying. Yes, you can fly in opengl. It took some time to atleast give the illusion of flying, but I eventally got there. Once I had the videogame style flying working the only thing I could think of was back in the day when I used to play StarFox for the Nintendo 64. ‘What the hell are you talking about’ you say? You know, StarFox64… one of the best games ever… well if you don’t remember, you are StarFox (or one of the lamer characters), and you fly an awesome fighter, and sometime you fly through rings of triangllly things to get power ups and such; so, I turned my fireball into a ghetto Starfox.
The app works like this: When it runs, it generates a random ‘worm hole’ (or, path of cube rings), for you to fly your camera through using the arrow, F, and B keys. A little heads-up display lets you know where you are along the tube of rings… and thats about it. No real point, its just fun to fly around. I swear I will make something useful soon…
