Hello Studio!
Nice to meet you.
Since we are going to be together for a semester, I should tell you a little about myself and what I plan on doing. For starters, the reason I am in pComp Studio is that I get to work on a project in my own way… specifically, seeing what its like to do the ‘distribution’ part of a project. Now I know thats not what ITP is known for… but I’ve had a lot of experience in what ITP is known for and I want to know what it feels like to really finish a project. So, thats where I’m going, and what’s gonna get me there is a really small project: using a flame to control a large light source.
I hope to complete the project quickly and robustly so that I can get it in the hands of people… see how they like it, how they use it, would they buy it? And possibly, if I have time, explore distribution options of the object. Because my project is going to involve so much of the outside world, what I need from you class is honest feedback and advice. A whole room full of opinions is going to be good in this case, so speak you mind; especially if any of you have experience with distribution/marketing and user testing.
In return for your guidance, I will provide all the knowledge in my head, which is the following: I am a producer. I know how to produce. Be it in material fabrication or using software, I know how to do things quickly and well. So if you have questions about ‘how to’… I am your man. AND, if you want a critique, I have loads of experience thinking through projects and design processes.
Oh, and if you need to know ‘where’ to get something… I have started a little google maps list that is filling out nicely.
